‘Monster Hunt’ Becomes All Time Second Biggest Film In China

Monster Hunt” has overtaken “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Transformers 4” to become the second biggest movie of all time at the Chinese box office.

The hybrid live action and animation film earned in excess of $30 million in the past seven days to advance its total to RMB2.51 billion or US$330 million, according to distributor Edko Films.

The film has held the top spot at the box office for 25 consecutive days and is the first Chinese film ever to exceed RMB2 billion. Only “Fast & Furious 7” (aka “Furious 7”) has a higher total in China. In April it reached $391 million.

Directed by Raman Hui, “Monster Hunt” ranked sixth globally this weekend with a $16.4 million total between Friday and Sunday, according to data service, Rentrak.
